My hubby is waiting for a date for a colonoscopy following a positive bowel screening test.

I am really concerned about the results.I know if could be lots of things but I can't help thinking the worst.

He doesn't have bc symptoms all the time.Still really worried about him. I know this found daft but I really feel for him having to go through the procedure as for me it seems embarrassing.i  know the nursing team with do everything than can to preserve dignity.  Getting really worried about if it us cancer.

  • Hi there,

The worst thing about the colonoscopy is the moviprep solution you take before... and it tastes rancid. The test itself is ok -   I always have the pain relief/sedation which really helps.

The staff are fabulous and there is no time to feel anxious. Even though i was sedated i watched the procedure on the screen - it was very important and as such you dont feel any embarrassment at all.

They go through the results with you both afterwards. I was told that they thought i had cancer, and it was, but your husband may have something else. Better to know the results so that you can do something about it.

i am having my first year follow up colonoscopy this Friday - i too feel apprehensive, but it needs to be done.

    Good luck

  • Good morning, I have to agree with Paula, the worst physical part of a scope is downing the prep.  I find lemon squash in it and literally 'downing it in one' to be the best approach; everyone finds their own way.  The day before is often no solids at all, i find decent beef consomme or french onion soup, well strained to at least have some taste.  The procedure is genuinely embarrassment free, it was conducted by a male surgeon &  nurse; the gender does not bother me at all, the subsequent surgery was performed by a female surgeon and the nursing team predominately female; it makes no difference.   As it was done in Liverpool three man quickly got talking about football & the then recent Liverpool derby match.  It was over quickly as they soon discovered a sizeable tumour.   The surgeon doing it was 'my kind of guy,' I asked if it was malignant , he said he couldn't know for certain, I asked "and if you were a betting man?" Oh definitely malignant - he'd have won.

I can't and wouldn't say 'don't worry, ' but if it is B/C all I can say is the whole diagnosis/treatment was nowhere near as bad as I feared.  The NHS is truly wonderful.   One last thing, DO NOT GOOGLE ANYTHING
