Evening everyone, hope everything is going well for you, i have another question to ask, about the phantom bowel , this last few days ,im getting a strong urge to push, everytime i go to the toilet, ive mentioned it to the stoma nurse when she came to see me, she says im doing the right thing by sitting on the toilet until the feeling passes, but i want to push so much, she says its like a mucus whats causing it, and asked if my bottom had been stitched up, as far as i know it hasnt, i wasnt told this in hospital, but as soon as i get off the feeling is back again, how do or did you cope with this feeling, and how long did you have it, i go see the Dr at hospital soon ,so im going to have a word with him also, i was doing so well too, managing to cope with everything ,as far as changing my pouches, and coming to terms with all thats changed these last few weeks, but i really dont like this toilet feeling,it worse than before my opp ,Thanks,x.
Hi Nan-Nan I had a similar thing on Sunday. Since my op on 2nd January this year I have had four occasions where I wanted to push. On the first 3 occasions this resulted in a very tiny fart which was quite amazing. However, on Sunday morning I had the sensation of wanting a poo so sat on the loo and liquid came out, this hasn't happened before or since. I don't know what the liquid was but I'm assuming it was mucus as I had been told about it by my stoma nurse and I had also looked it up on the internet.
It is a strange feeling when you haven't used your bottom for a while but hopefully it will pass soon.
Stay safe and keep well.
Rita
Hi nan-nan
I have had my stoma since 1 April, I have this feeling at least once a week, sometimes more. When I sit on the toilet and gently push I do pass clear mucus and on occasions have passed a hard ball. I have spoken with my stoma nurses and they assured me this is quite normal and as long as the mucus isn't discoloured or has a really bad odour not to worry. Maybe massage your tummy and you may pass the mucus and get relief.
I think this varies in everyone and I believe some people have to wear protection because of this mucus, It is just lubrication from the redundant bowel.
Glad to hear you are managing ok with the bag, I am too but can't wait when the day comes for my reversal
Take care and keep safe x
Hi . You sound to be doing really well and it’s still quite early days. I hope the other posts reassure that this is normal and your doctor will do the same.

Hi Peacock , it sure is a funny feeling, this last few days i have passed a clear mucus, (sorry for the next detail) when i have wiped there has been nothing showing, so thats a good thing, and i dont have that funny sensation as i did before of wanting to push, guess something had to pass for this feeling to go, i am due to see the Dr this week, and im going to have a word with him, just to put my mind at rest, everything is going fine ty, managing my pouch great, and the pancacking has settled down now, hope you are well and keeping safe too, Hugs to you x
Hi nan-nan I had an appointment on the phone yesterday with my surgeon and I mentioned this problem to him he said it was perfectly normal thing to happen as I still had some colon. I think that's what he said anyway my chemo brain makes me forget percofic words . Then when I finish talking to him I went to the loo and passed 2 white rocks !!!
Hope this helps
