So I had my scan today for my treatment and start it 22nd June. It has been reduced from 5 weeks to 1 week with a higher does radiotherapy to limit the visits to hospital.  Has anyone had this shorter course of treatment as wondering if the higher does give worse side affects as this is really worrying me.

    Hi

My radiotherapy was a week of high dose and my side effects lasted for over a month. Some days were better than others. I felt very fatigued and slept a lot. I often had to go to the bathroom and couldn’t eat much. But I survived it. I don’t mean to scare you but that was how I felt then. Hope everything goes well for you.

Just when I thought I had got my head round what was happening I get a letter saying I need a liver and spleen MRI which has come out of the blue. They have said it is part of the normal planning but as I had thought it had not spread it has come as a bit of a blow that this may not be the case and really set me back. Really don't like this roller-coaster that I am on at the moment.

  • Hi ,

Hold onto your staging letter . No sign of spread . If it’s any consolation to you my mum’s liver Mets have always been picked up by CT scan alone . Some around one cm and she was told at that point . I am seeing more and more of this on the forums so I would take them at their word that they are just being thorough . They certainly have never not told my mum when they suspect something that they are checking out . They have been very open , no sugar coating it when they have something to tell you .
Hope your doing ok . It is frightening but it will soon be heading in a better direction .

    take care ,

  • Hi . Yes they are just being very thorough. I had to have an mri on my liver to check something which turned out to be a hemangioma. These are harmless cysts which you can have from birth and most people go through life never knowing that they’ve got one! They are harmless and are only discovered if someone has a ct scan for example. You’ve had a good initial staging report so hold on to that - once you’ve had all the initial tests and meetings and started treatment then things will feel a little better.

Your initial staging is exactly the same as mine and I’m now 3.5 years clear. It will be a tough 12-18 months but it is doable and we’ll help get you through it.

    Take care
