I had bowel cancer and two cycles of capecitabine. They had to stop because it made me ill. It took me a long time to recover and so far all clear.

It’s been two years and still clear I have met the man of my dreams, after being single many many years. Finally!

i signed the consent form for treatment knowing I probably would never have any more children as I was single for such a long time. Now I’ve met someone and he’s not had any children. I want to have a baby.  Everything is working but I’m not pregnant yet. Has anybody gone on to have a baby after cancer treatment? Or does it make you infertile? My doctor hasn’t said anything, just sent me four tests and they came back normal

i know I’m lucky to be alive but I’ve been given this extra chance now to fulfill my life completely. I never thought I’d recover and find happiness again.

    Hi

I am sorry I don't know what effect the chemo might have, I think it varies according to the particular drug. My brother had his sperm frozen when he had treatment for testicular cancer as infertility was a known side effect. What I do want to say is that I am so glad that everything has worked out well for you. I love a happy love story and you give hope to so many others.

I can’t really remember tbh. I don’t have it now. But I can’t remember how long it took. I remember I was ok at Christmas after chemo and surgery. That was nine months later. My main problem was bowel function and I also suffered a couple Of complications In the following year. This year is hospital free. Thank goodness. Sorry I can’t help.

  • So lovely to see your name pop up and hear your good news . Certainly have seen some good news on the baby front around the forums over the years but not for any scientific information. Sorry !

But great to see you enjoying life !

    Hi Colonillia

Neuropathy affects different people in different ways, its due to our body's reaction to certain chemos and some people don't get it at all.

I had my chemo in 2012 and I still have neuropathy, it's there all of the time  and some days its quite bad. It will often keep me awake at night.   I was unlucky, for most people it will stop just after chemo finishes, for others it goes on for some months, but for most people it will disappear.

If it last after chemo, there are medication that your GP can prescribe and sometimes I understand they help, I didn't want to take any more medication, so I live with it.  It's a nuisance, but I'm still here which is the most important thing.

Hopefully your's will disappear soon,  as clinicians are much more aware of this side affects than they were when I had my treatment.

    Take care,

    VickiLynne
