Hi all, just wanting to ask, after you had your stoma fitted , how long was it before you could sleep on that side, sleeping on my back is doing me no good, i have raised my pillows & bought a v shaped pillow, but not helping, its just over 2 weeks since my opp,but would love a good nights sleep on my side ,Ty and take care x.
Hi . I had exactly the same problem so after a couple of weeks I risked it but folded up a small towel and placed it between the bag and mattress to give it a bit of support so it didn’t feel to be dangling off me?
I was always worried about squashing the bag but it was quite resilient! Give it a try and let us know how you get on
Take care

Thank-you for your reply, thats been on my mind about laying on the stoma, as it still feels sore around the wound, (will it burst) (will it hurt) ( will the wound be at risk of getting damaged) i love laying on my side but have not tried it yet, but i will do now you have mentioned the towel, and another thing is ,i will be glad when these tight stockings can come off, and my legs can breath, but i have another 2 weeks to go with that yet,il let you know how i go on, you also Take care x.
Hi Nan nan
i also had my stoma 2 weeks ago and was able to sleep on my side the very next day. I can’t sleep on my back for very long so while at the hospital I tried sleeping on my side and when released to go home I’ve been sleeping on my side the whole time.

Hi AnaC_C,thats good to hear, i cant settle on my back, but its the thought of trying to on my side, guess the 1st time i try ,i will know if its early enough, or to wait a bit longer & just keep on trying,i hope you are coping well with your stoma too, some days are better than others for me, i looked on here yesterday for tips, and saw if i remember the word right (pancaking) its only just started to happen, but stoma nurse came to see me other day, and cut the hole smaller in pouches, ive cut around them to make them a bit bigger, so far so good, i hope you are now recovering ,and resting, Take care x
Hi Nan nan
yes pancaking, I have had it and caused leaking. I wasn’t happy. Apparently I needed to drink lots of water.
One other thing, I am going through chemo as well and looks like it’s causing blockages. I am really having difficulty due to the chemo causing swelling inside me. That was also the cause as to why I had emergency surgery to put the stoma in as the chemo made my tumor swell and caused an obstruction. Now it’s doing it again with my stoma. NOT HAPPY. Hopefully this can be resolved at home rather that going to A&E.
hope you can sleep well and get used to our new norm.
Ana
Hi Court
yes, my Bed was finally delivered end of April. And yes, I had emergency surgery as chemo caused my tumor to swell and I got an obstruction. Looks like it is doing it again with my stoma. Hopefully there is home remedy rather than having to go to A&E.
I am towards my 4th cycle of chemo and now very scared that I might get another blockage.
How are things with you? How’s your mom doing?
ana
Delighted to hear your bed arrived and I hope it is comfortable. But sounds as though you had a rough time . My mum’s colon was quite inflamed during chemo so I sending love and hope it’s behaving itself to give you some relief. How many chemos are they giving in this cycle ?
Take care ,

Oh yes the bed is very comfortable and it was like heaven sleeping on it .
I have 3 different chemos in a cycle and I was quite inflamed the second cycle and it caused the obstruction and again now. Just glad hot water bottles and hot drinks and lots of water helped me and was able to relieve myself today. Was so scared that I had to go A&E again.
Mall in all, I am a happy camper today but the winds is keeping me indoors . Hoping tomorrow would be better.
thanks Court appreciate your concern and feedback.
