Hi all,
Just looked back at my messages and the last time I sent one was last July. Thought I’d join the online community again to connect.
Soon after Sending that message I received news from my oncologist that cancer had returned and I now had stage 4 colon cancer which had spread to lymph node in the neck and messentry. Since then I have had a short course of radiotherapy, 10 rounds of chemo and I give myself clexaine injections twice a day due to a blood clot.Currently I have been given a break from chemo due to the risks of covid19,it will be 3 months as I should restart treatment in June.
I must have lost weight due to the return of my cancer before treatment started but I have put a lot of weight on since treatment. I have always been slim but now I am 10 stone I can’t get into most of my clothes. I have put a lot of weight on,especially round the stomach area. Hospital always seem pleased I have put on weight and I guess steroids, less activity and eating more during treatment but now I am having a break even exercise doesn’t seem to be making a difference. Wondering if others have experienced this and any tips.?!
Also I have felt really well during my break from chemo with more energy and able to really enjoy food. However this week had sickness and diarrhoea and concerned this may be due to cancer in messentry. I’m sure cancer must have grown in this time.Curious to know if anyone else has felt like this?I would love to hear someone else’s experience, especially at this lonely time.(Only 6 more weeks to spend in isolation!)

Welcome back .
A lot has been happening for you by the sounds of things . My mum lost three stones during chemo not the cancer . So I am not much help to you but they were delighted when she put it back on in the hospital. I would think the steroids have quite a bit to do with it . I know my friend is struggling with that aspect just now . However it is good to hear you are doing well and keeping well . Have you thought about some online gentle exercise to get you moving a bit more ? I know my friend just feels it’s another thing that is altered and it does annoy her but just now she has not got the energy to deal with it just yet .
I know my mum loved her chemo breaks . It was wonderful to get back to being able to taste food and not feel so tired . It really set her up well . Regarding the tumour growth , she did have some in her existing tumour and her consultant did confirm that was to be expected but it was still within an ok range and it shrank again with her next lot of chemo. He did not seem surprised and just proceeded with the plan .
You are welcome to come and join us on our Boris Break Tit - bits . It’s open to everyone to help all get through the day during this uncertain time . Or have a good rant but it certainly makes you feel less isolated so please join us and we can help you through the next six weeks . Others also might have an idea of exercising whilst isolating .
Take care ,

Hi Sarah
I'm sorry to hear that your cancer has returned.
I see Court had been in touch and I would also say that I put weight on during treatment and my oncologist though it was quite ok and normal. My cancer support nurse - from my GP surgery - who used to visit me at home , as I was going through treatment whilst caring for my husband - told me not to worry about my weight gain but to concentrate of being as well as I could be. Which I think was good advice, and remember that chemo stays in your system for quite a while.
Take care and keep safe

Hi Court,
Thanks for your reply, it was encouraging to know others have gone through the same, and your moms experience. I suppose the main thing is to be well not fit back in all your clothes. While I am not on chemo I’m trying to get abit fitter and going on treadmill, especially as can’t get out for walks due to shielding at the moment. I’m also trying to eat abit healthier although I’m sure it will all go to pot once I start on chemo again. I may join your Boris Break Tit-bits.....thanks for asking.
Stay safe
Sarah
Hi VickiLynne
Thanks for sharing your experiences and advice. You’re right the main thing is keeping well. I am trying to get fitter by going on treadmill as can’t go walking due to shielding. Also trying to eat more healthy. It may be a good excuse to buy some new clothes!
keep safe
Sarah
I found the whole weight change in my mum hard to process . One point she was three stones lighter and we worked hard to get weight on her . Managed that and then she gained three stones of fluid after her liver surgery and I had to by her maternity clothes till that settled . She had about three different sizes of clothes over two years .
Its fantastic that you are exercising. You must be really disciplined. But the research does seem to support better outcomes from treatment . They were in the middle of some extensive research but not sure if that’s been paused just now .
Please feel free to join us or keep on your own thread . Just whatever suits you .
Take care ,
Court
