Hi all,
my brother has been informed he has BRAF mutant colorectal cancer. He is about to start FOLFOXIRI treatment in 2 weeks time. Has anyone here had the same diagnosis or having the same treatment that they can possibly share their stories and how they get on with it?
many thanks
Hi ,
How is your brother’s wound getting on?
The list above is the chemotherapy options . As you can see they are giving him three components. This will be similar to other people’s treatment and overlap but will possibly have more impact on hair thinning etc than others . He could expect to have the same sensitivity to touching cold items . Should be well wrapped up when leaving the hospital particularly round his mouth . Take fluids at room temperature, wear light cotton gloves , slippers etc . The Oxaliplatin is given by an infusion in hospital and with my mum the worst of her side effects were within the first twelve hours . The tablets did cause her stomach cramps so given it’s not so easy to get out just now I would have buscopan ( over the counter medicine) in the house . He might experience looser bowel movements with the protocol he is using .
Some people have had good shrinkage . You might also like to look into the Beacon trial . It’s just published its findings on a trail for Braf patients . Simply put their cells use different pathways from others and they have developed a protocol to shut that down . I will add a photo to explain . It’s still coming through at the moment but hopeful for the future . Also keep an eye on Immunotherapy. It’s also making good progress.
You can also follow the other chemotherapy threads as it is very similar to stage 3 treatment too . My mum used the Oxaliplatin and cap and it did a fantastic job .Braf patients have slightly different treatment options but it depends on the individual response and that’s where the Hope lies .
Send him our love and here’s to significant shrinkage.

Thanks so much for all your advice, He’s recovered so well from the op and the fluid stopped leaking luckily. He is up and about doing everything he normally would, too much probably! He doesn’t let anything stop him! Just a shame to think this chemo is going to make him feel rubbish again, but hopefully it’s all for a good cause and we will see some shrinkage results.
He sounds as strong ! Good on him . He has recovered very well indeed .
He May be one of the lucky people who don’t experience many side effects . My mum had a lot of them but they are so skilled at adjusting the dose and dealing with side effects she managed through two years of it . It’s a big positive going into it from a strong position.
Send him our love and here’s to successful shrinkage .
