Pain in left buttock?

I have just finished my 8th infusion of 8 - on capox after a diagnosis of stage 3c rectal cancer last year. Not looking forward to feeling incredibly fatigued over the next week but absolutely delighted that I have finished 8 treatments and hope for better times ahead (after a few recent scares!).

However, one thing that's been concerning me is a pain I've been feeling in my left buttock... I had exactly the same pains pre-surgery (and post-surgery) last year. I am on medication to ease the pain but it is still there and doesn't seem to be shifting. The oncologists don't seem to know what it is but were concerned enough to send me for scans, which came back clear in the pelvic area. Has anyone had anything similar?

I appreciate any thoughts/advice in advance.

Best wishes,

Mathew

  • Hi

So pleased to hear you have finished your chemo and very well done for ensuring that . 8 is a lot ! My mum only ever managed 6 in one go and towards the end really needed the break . I know you have a week of exhaustion in front of you but a lovely thought to know that’s it over .

I remember one surgeon saying to my mum that chemo hits every aspect of your body and my mum did have odd pain during chemo but things did settle . Great news you got a good scan in the area . That is reassuring in itself . I kept telling my mum that she had scar tissue internally and well as externally. Not sure how accurate it was but a lot of what she suffered in her early days did seem to fad with time . She had the back up of good scans and CEA checks to put her mind at ease .
Hope it eases for you and also hope this week is not too rough .

Hopefully others will pop on to to give you their direct experience.

    Dear Court,

Yep. There have been some bumps along the way (low bloods, they thought I had secondary in the liver until it was ruled out last week!) but I'm very happy I've got to number 8 and the end!

I'm glad you mentioned about scar tissues as that was one of the theories post surgery. Hopefully it's as innocent as that.

Thanks ever so much for your reassuring response. Appreciated.

    Best wishes,

    Mathew
