Hi everyone
I am currently looking to return to work next week after having an Ileostomy due to a bowel blockage from the removal of a tumor in August 2019. I have recently restarted chemotherapy after a 5 week break due to the Ileostomy. I use the bus/public transport to get to work and my wife is concerned with the recent coronavirus and my low immune system because of the chemo and cancer. Has anyone else had these thoughts regards using public transport and work. I have recovered from the surgey and feel fine to return to work but with everything going on I was just wondering what people's thoughts are.
Regards Mark
Hi ,
It’s all very confusing but with the rate of spread , particularly from those who have yet to have symptoms I would not venture back just yet . However that’s just my opinion. I would chat with you oncologist, GP or phone 0808 808 0000 and get some guidance from those more informed .
From what I am reading the problem becomes intense if you become ill and require to go to Intensive care . If we follow the trajectory of Italy , France, Spain etc then the end of this week could be seeing an NHS under considerable strain . Leaving it a couple of weeks to get a better feel for how this is going to unfold in Britain would be my take . What is a couple of weeks to make a better assessment of the situation and avoid another layer of hospitals or worse becoming very ill . If it was me I would take sick leave and I think you would be supported by your team on this one .
We want you safe
and honestly I have not been paid by your wife .
My mum is doing social distancing and hating it with a passion . Maybe we need to start a thread of productive things to do during this time .
Hope that’s not to pointed but I would go cautiously,
Great you are feeling so well though . You have come through so much .
Take care ,

Hi Court
It's definitely confusing with the should and shouldn't do's regarding the information we get. My work will be fine as work for the dwp my team have been so supportive throughout as to everything I have been through. I think I will call and speak to the oncologists team tomorro and also speak to work it doesn't help that I work in a big open plan office too. It certainly helps to have this online forum and all the great people like yourself who post and give there time responding to people's fears n questions.
Regards Mark
Sounds like a good plan . I think the speed of change has taken everywhere by surprise but the more guidance from your team the better .
Take care ,

Hi Court
I have now been advised by both my work guidelines and obviously the government guidelines and are looking to isolate/refrain from social contact for 12 weeks. So just the weekly visits to the hospital for chemotherapy and appointments.
Regards Mark
Glad you are going to be safe . I had another look at the guidelines today too . I am still going in to my parents to give them food .
Stay in touch . I still am shocked at the speed of change .
Stay safe ,
