Hi all,

Does anyone have any information regarding this Trial re Capox chemotherapy?

I have been informed by my oncologist that I need 6 months of Capox and I am around 1 and a half months into the treatment now. I looked at the information regarding this Trial on the Cancer Research site after reading a post on here recently, and it seems that there is no difference in patient outcome between 3 months and 6 months treatment. I am wondering why I wasn't informed about this by my Dr's and am thinking is it possible to finish this treatment sooner rather than later.

Does anyone else have any opinions or advice?

I will speak to the doctor at my next appointment in 2 weeks time.

Many thanks for reading,

  • Hi

I have read the research in the Lancet if that is of any interest to you . It goes into the specifics of the trial criteria and exclusions . If you match up to the criteria it would certainly be worthwhile looking to see if it matches your situation. I think from the Nice guidelines if the histopathology matches then it is something to discuss with your oncologist.

It is easy to find on google with just your heading .

If for some reason it is not appropriate my mum had her dose reduced and the difference was incredible regarding her quality of life . It really did ease her side effects.

Certainly worth asking about if it has the same outcomes .

    Hi Court,

    Many thanks for the reply.

Yes I did read the article online from the lancet, well not all of it admittedly, as it was a scientific research study and went into a lot of depth but I got the gist of it.

Yes I will certainly talk to the doctors about it at my next apt. My quality of life has really been affected by the chemo at the moment. Perhaps the dose could be reduced for the next cycle.

I am glad to hear that your mum's quality of life has improved just by a reduction in the dose. I knew the chemo wouldn't be easy but I honestly didn't expect to feel like I'd been run over by a bus.

  • Hi ,

I have every sympathy with you . The side effects for some people are so debilitating. My mum struggled through six cycles the first year and ended up with emergency admissions . The second year they reduced her dose of oxy by just 20% and suddenly it went to doable . I feel very guilty looking back as we should have spoken up the first year but she was a stage 4 patient and it had a big job to do . Not only that but it worked just as well on her recurrence at a lower dose .

I hope you get a good chat with your oncologist and come up with a suitable solution. Hopefully one way or another you will get to a more manageable situation.
    Here’s to a better plan .

Many thanks for the support Court. Yes I will feel better after talking to my doctor. I will try and manage to get all my questions answered this time.

I can understand why you would feel guilty but I am sure at the time you were just doing everything you needed to do for your mum's recovery, so please try not to beat yourself up.
