My hubby has to have a colonoscopy following a routine bowel screening.
He is taking it all in his stride but I am worried sick about it all. He has had a colonoscopy a few years ago so knows what to expect and he says that he isn't bothered by the procedure but I hate the thought of him having to go through all the bowel prep and the procedure.
He has had some blood following a bowel movement for the last few weeks. No other symptoms and has suffered from piles in the past.
I am a worrier and always imagine the worst but as I work in the NHS I have seen lots of patients with cancer and how it affects people.
My Mum died of pancreatic cancer and liver Mets in 2012 so I am now terrified of losing hubby to this disease too.Eldest daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer last year but luckily is doing well.
I know I am worrying before there is something to worry about but can't help it.
Hi Angie
Its totally understandable to worry and there’s no magic cure for it. I can totally relate to how you feel and despite reminding myself that ‘worrying won’t change anything’ and ‘worrying takes away today’s peace’ etc. it’s almost impossible not to.
Theres no way of guessing what the outcome of the colonoscopy will be but it needs to be done to get to establish the reason for the bleeding. There are a lot of things that can cause bleeding - piles, polyps, diverticulitis. Hopefully after the colonoscopy you will have an idea of the cause. If it is Bowel Cancer then there is a lot of treatment available especially if caught early - some consultants have been heard to comment that ‘if you were to get a cancer then this is one of the most treatable ones’.
Please stay away from google. Once you know what you’re facing then we will help you get through it and there is lots of support and information available.
Please keep in touch and let us know how hubby gets on
Take care
