Hi everyone
I saw the surgeon last Monday where he said he had got all the tumor out with the surgery and I now have to see the oncologist about wether I need chemo and then it will be the reversal of the illostomy , well this Monday I received the follow up sent to the Doctors and it said I had some extramural vascular invasion EMVI . I couldn't help but Google this and it mentions that it means it's going in the blood vessels has anybody else had this? I'm a bit worried now . Thanks in advance
Lots of love

Hi Marianne26 thanks for the info I have my appointment with the oncologist on Thursday , my surgeon has told me if the oncologist wants to give me chemotherapy he will do the reversal op after and if there's no chemotherapy then I will have the op in January but on the follow up letter he says he will see me in 3 months time so a bit confused , I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Thursday,
Best wishes

Hi Peacock!
I had precisely this same thing happen to me. I've got a link here to a thread where it was discussed. My post (second from top) goes into this a little more. I hope it will put your mind at ease somewhat!

Hi stoatlord thanks for your reply , yes it has put my mind at rest a little as there doesn't seem to be that many posts about it , I will just have to go along with whatever the oncologist decides , keeping my fingers crossed for Thursday trying to keep busy . I hope you are doing ok now
Lots of love

Thanks Peacock!
I have ups, I have downs, but insofar as the cancer cells in my blood, I was tested a couple of weeks ago, and there was no sign of activity. Safe to say that, for now, those cells are gone, they did not settle and cause new problems, and I can breathe easy. I do hope you are able to say the same!

Hi Peacock62
How did you get on with your oncologist? I had a meeting with my local oncologist after being referred to him by the hospital I was under in London. Their oncologist recommended chemotherapy but this one didn’t think it was worthwhile going through chemo as he said it would only increase my chances by 3% & to further complicate things they do the treatment within 3 months of the op & my wound now has another infection so they won’t even consider doing it if it hasn’t healed (my 3 months is up 23rd jan) . I had a chat with my Mcmillan nurse as I was confused as to how 2 oncologists have different views on my treatment, although as my wound isn’t healing she said my original oncologist would probably come to the same conclusion. Hope you got some answers from your appointment.

Hi Marianne26
i have just been told chemo would only increase my chances by 3% . So my oncologist doesn’t recommend it even though the oncologist I was under in London but who referred me to one more local said I should have it as they found cells in some blood vessels (but N0 & M0) . It has totally confused me but as I have a wound that is infected they won’t even consider chemo until healed anyway . I’m inclined to go with the oncologist who said no chemo after seeing the statistics. Plus he said nothing in 20 lymph nodes was excellent.

Hi I had my appointment yesterday with the oncologist and I've been told I need 6 months of chemotherapy!!! I wasn't given any percentages or anything , as i have been unwell lately she doesn't want to start till 7th Jan which is just on the 12 week timescale . I was quite upset last night when I got in . What hospital in London are you under ? I really hope your infection clears up soon , nothing seems to be straightforward in this cancer journey does it . It keeps throwing obstacles along the way.
Has anybody out there managed to work in a physically demanding job whilst having chemo for this lenght of time, really worried about my job

Hi Peacock62
i am so sorry to hear you were upset last night but totally understandable you have had a shock and your still not well which makes it even harder.
i am sure there are laws around work and job protection when you have cancer maybe ring the helpline.
i have PM you a reply to msg you sent me
take care and sending love and hug xxx
Hi Peacock 62
I can understand you being upset, that’s exactly how I felt with the news & then the conflicting views of two oncologists.
I had my surgery at Northwick Park hospital in Harrow but after seeing the oncologist there she set out the treatment plan for my chemo (6 months like you) but wanted me to have it in my own home town which is where the oncologist there gave me the percentage of how much chemo would make a difference & it was only 3%.
But as I said with my wound not healing it looks like I’ll be out of the 3 month window so will just have to trust his judgement. It certainly isn’t a straightforward process this cancer lark is it ? !
Hoping you feel better soon & remember positivity goes a long way in the healing process.
