To say that I am in shock is an understatement. I just had a phonecall giving me my PET scan results and not only do I have lung mets but the scan has shown uptake in my left breast indicative of breast cancer. So now they don't know if my lung mets are from the bowel or breast so I have an urgent referral to the breast cancer team so that they can investigate further. They need to know the source of the lung mets so I can get the right chemo treatment. I find myself hoping that the mets are from my breast as my bowel tumour is Mucinous MSS which doesn't respond well to chemo. Perhaps breast cancer mets will be more responsive to chemo? I am trying to look on the bright side here. All the straws I am clutching seem to have shit on them....
OK the famous cry "Anyone else have this happen to them?"
I'm so sorry to hear about your PET scan results. Here's hoping the breast cancer team can give you some good news and you can start the fight. Wishing you all the best x
Rita
Thinking of you Nicky . That is quite a shock indeed .
Just a thought though would they consider a biopsy of the lung met to know for sure where it originated ? I know they are not that keen on them but my friend had a previous breast tumour then another primary lung met with a significant spread . In that situation they gave her a biopsy ( despite it being inconclusive ) it gave them enough information to narrow her chemo . Which I have to say has had an absolutely amazing response . Only scar tissue left and mountains of stress to wade through .
My mum had to have a breast lump investigated that showed up on her CT scan , thankfully at a different time from the lung met so did not interfere with that process . It was benign in the end .
I do understand that it might be more advantageous for you in terms of treatment to be coming from a different cell type .
Also remember they are getting some promising results with MSS patients in America with immunotherapy as long as the tumour mutation burden is high . Still in its infancy but it’s being well scrutinised.
But I am so sorry you are having to endure all this . It’s such a lot of stressful situations back to back . I am holding out for quick intervention and a good plan to knock this back down .
Too much information in one night to overload anyone but keep in the back of your mind Germany has the only doctor now since London’s Doctor Ladas retired , who does laser surgery on lung mets . Privately though .
take special care and I am thinking of you .
