I had my 1st chemo.infusion on thursday and am now on 2 weeks of tablet chemo. Today has hit me hard and was wondering if this feeling will last or if it will ease. Has anyone else got experience of combination chemo and if the side effects last for the whole time taking the tablets or if it peaks and then gets better.
Hi @Daisy May 090819. Sorry to hear that you’re struggling. Is it anything in particular that is bothering you or are you just feeling a bit bleurgh in general?
People quite often comment that they feel a bit rough 3 days in - I don’t know if it’s a bit of a come down off the steroids - then pick up a bit mood wise. I found the first bite syndrome (where you get a pain opening your jaw to eat) was always worse for the first couple of days after infusion but then wore off over the next few days. If you’re 2 weeks on then 1 week off with the capecitabine then you’ll start to feel better on the week off. The touching cold things I found seemed to last for more days after each cycle so I was careful to wear gloves when getting things out of the fridge and wrapping up warm when outside.
Its worth keeping a diary as to how you’re feeling as you may find that there’s a pattern to things and you then know to pencil in an easy day every 3rd Sunday for example if you know you’re not going to be feeling your best.
If you feel really unwell then give the 24 hour chemo helpline that you should’ve been given a ring - it’s there for advice not just emergencies.
Hope you start to feel a bit better tomorrow
Take care
