Hi all my 1st Radiotherapy starts tomorrow, and yes the nerves are starting to creep up, but i know its for my own good, so will have to take it in my stride, after tomorrow at least i know what to expect for the coming weeks, and if ive got the dates right ,i should be finished a couple of weeks before Christmas, but then i will have the surgery date on my mind, how long do you have to wait before you know when that will be, im just hoping its in the New Year, then at least i can try and relax throughout  the festive season x.

  • Hi . Good luck for tomorrow although I’m sure once you’ve got the first session under your belt you’ll soon realise that it’s nothing to worry about.

After your course of treatment ends it’s usually 8-10 weeks before surgery as the radiotherapy carries on working for a good while afterwards so hopefully you will be able to put it to the back of your mind and enjoy the festivities.

    Take care

Thank-you Karen,is it ok to ask ,have you had your treatment,  i will try put it to the back of my mind, then its just a waiting game, and as a lot of people on here  have been through that ,if no-one minds, i will ask questions about surgery ,and try ease my mind a little, hugs to you x

  • Hi good luck for tomorrow I am sure it will all be fine and you will relax after the first one.  As for dates my husband finished his five weeks treatment on June 4th, he then had scans 8 / 9 weeks later then had sigmoidoscopy and biopsies on August 19th then MDT meeting 2nd Sept, so if yours is the same you could be looking at March. It is normal timescale, there were three others from this forum having same treatment as my hubby, and all had their scans and results etc around the same time and it was all from different hospitals across the country..you could always ask your team.

  • Hi . Yes I had chemoradio therapy in August 2016, surgery at the end of November 2016, chemo April-July 2017 and my stoma reversed March 2018. I suppose my experience is a little out of date now but if there anything I can help you with or reassure you about then please ask away.

I know it’s not easy but please try not to worry about the surgery just yet - focus on staying fit and healthy for the radiotherapy then you can think about surgery once this box is ticked off

    Take care
