What can we eat on a low residue diet, i have a list from hospital the 1 they gave me before my clear out scan lol,but ive been told to follow the list, not much fun things to eat on it, it says no milk of any sort, yet i looked at a LRD sheet online ,and it says you can have milk, i also like fruit & veg, but what can we have in that group, any tips would be welcome, i also start my chemo tablets & radiotherapy next week, so would some foods interfere with this,,,, thank-you.
Hi I have been on a low residue diet since March and I never been told I can't have milk so I would check with your team. I too was eating loads of veggies fruit brown bread seeds rye bread etc I could go on for ages. I soon got used to the diet and I have tried to keep it healthy as well. I think it worked for me as I managed to work in a manual job and swim before and after the chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Here are the things that helped me. I eat a lot of fish. It should be white fish. If I had soup my dietition suggested I had cheese on toast with it to up my protein and calories. Avocados are good for you . For fresh fruit I have melon make sure there are no pips, or tinned fruit I have mainly tinned mandarins in fruit jelly.the tinned fruit has nutrients in too you will get used it. I make tomato sauce from fresh tomatoes and blend it up and sieve it I don't use onions .then have it over chicken. I also use smooth peanut butter on white toast or crumpets for added protein. I also have mashed carrots with mash potato .I think there is some green veg you can have as long as it's well cooked but I don't like it like that so leave it but I miss it. Just make sure you have no skin seeds or pips in your food ooh I also cook apples and have Apple puree . And I have a full fat natural yoghurt everyday. I have kept my diet quite plain but that's due to working and swimming etc I've been more interested in just getting my nutrients to keep myself fit for the op.I have now had my op and am still on the low residue diet due to my stoma but haven't got much of an appetite yet but it doesn't bother me you will get used to it. I think there are links of recipes for the diet I think they might be in the blogs not really sure .hopefully somebody will send the link. I have just kept it simple which suits me. I hope all this helps. Any other questions however small just ask.good luck with your radiotherapy and chemotherapy
Lots of love

Awe bless you Peacock,im so glad you are home too, and taking things easy, it is so much to take in, i have the odd black tea, but i love my milk, im ok with tinned fruit and do like tin mandarins & peaches, i will ask the team about the foods i can have, its the next 5 weeks which i will find the hardest, but at least the treatment should be finished before Christmas, hopefully i can enjoy a Christmas dinner, but will watch what i eat that day, i will keep a look out to see if there are any links showing on here, but ty for your help also,,,i wish you well in the future, take care xx
Hi nan nan just want to wish you well as you start your treatments, my husband did 5 weeks chemo radiotherapy but he wasn’t put on a low residue diet so can’t help you with that, the only thing we changed with diet as we have always eaten high fibre etc we stayed same, but I added high grade maukka honey, papaya, and cranberries and blueberries but not sure if you could have those on low residue diet
good luck and keep us posted fine it helps you, my husband got a complete response to treatment,
best wishes xx
