hi My first radiotherapy session is tomorrow. Can anybody let me know what to expect. I am having 5 days of high dose radiotherapy and want to know how you felt after. Did you feel the effects immediately or did it take a while.
Curiosity kills the cat here. Want to hear from those who have had it.
thanks
ana
Hi, I recently had 5 sessions of radiotherapy on a nodule in my left lung. I was given a leaflet telling me what to expect. Tiredness & sore skin seemed to be the main side effects. To be honest I never had any side effects at all. It takes a while for them to get you in the right position on the table, but apart from waiting for that, the rest is really quick. The procedure itself is painless, just like having a scan. Went straight home afterwards and that was it. I am retired so I lead quite a leisurely life (!) so maybe if you are still working you might find tiredness a problem. Hope tomorrow goes well for you.

Hi . No there is nothing to be scared of at all! I had 5 weeks of radiotherapy and the worst bit was the waiting about. The actual zapping is completely painless. You will be invited to lie on a (rather hard) table and the nurses will shuffle and squidge you into the right position so you’re correctly lined up. They then leave the room and everything is over within 5 minutes. The machine I was on looked almost like a giant compass in front of me that revolved round then stopped and I was zapped - it’s not like a scan where you’re closed in or anything.
You may experience some skin soreness but you are usually given some cream just in case - Do not use any other type of cream just in case it contains any zinc particles. You may suffer some fatigue so rest if you need to but, to be honest, I found it to be fine.
Hope it goes well for you
Take care
