Hi all

Unsure if anyone can help - unfortunately my stoma nurse and the colorectal department at the hospital don't work weekends!

Just changed my stoma bag and there was this yellow watery stuff just pumping from the stoma. Anyone know what it could be, and should I be worried?! Took a good half hour to try to change it because of this stuff constantly leaking out.

Thanks

  • Hi

Im sure Ian aka  will be able to reassure you but it sounds like it’s probably something you’ve eaten or drunk that your stoma doesn’t like! Fresh orange juice for example used to go straight through me. Can you think of anything you’ve had today that’s different to normal?

    Take care

    Hi Jen

Sorry I'm a bit late in joining in this conversation

The things they don't tell you when you get new stoma, you colour of you poo can cover all the colours of the rainbow and all depends on what you have been eating

This may give you an indication of the foods that can change your poo colour.

    • Beetroot  - Red
    • Tomato Soup - Red
    • Green vegetables - Green
    • Some Fuit juices
    • Sweet Potato - Orange
    • Coffee - Dark Brown
    • Foods with alot iron - Black
    • Red Wine - Red
    • Jelly - various
    • And the list goes on

My breakfast empting resembles a cappuccino all nice and frothy!

The time you should really worry if you see blood in your poo or coming out of your stoma opening, blood around the outside of stoma is perfectly normal

So if you see colourful poo or even not so colourful think what have I been eating and the colour

Some medications can change the colour of your poo, the pack leaflet should tell you if this is a side effect.

However it is not only foods and medication that can change your poo it could also be a sign of an infection, but always assume its because of food or medication first

    bon appétit

    Ian
