Hi everyone

Ive been getting along quite well after the operation being able to walk a bit more although i still have a urine infection I know I might sound like a wimp but yesterday afternoon I had my staples out I had about 32 staples (hubby counted them) it was really  uncomfortable  having them out then the nurse said some of it was bleeding and the part where the drain was,was a bit inflamed . I now have to go and get the dressings changed Saturday and then on Monday. It left me feeling really light headed and scared again to walk in case anything split open the nurse assured me this wouldn't happen but my mind goes crazy sometimes FlushedI thought I would feel better after a good night's sleep but still feel quite rough this morning

Well that's my little rant over

    Hi Peacock,

Great to hear you're doing so well after your op. And now that you've had your staples removed, that's a big step forward in your recovery. It will feel strange at first, not having those staples 'holding everything in' but your body has been healing all the time, and the staples wouldn't have been taken out if it wasn't time. Just keep an eye on the wound, and don't be shy in letting the nurses know of any changes, or if you have any concerns!

    Linda :-)

  • Hi Linda

Thank you for your reassuring reply it's good to know the weird sensations I'm feeling are normal though it is quite painful down there .I will check it out with the nurse tomorrow

  • Aww Thank you  so glad my posts and others gives you confidence. Have you started treatment yet? I wish you lots of luck and hugs for when you start. I went through 5 weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy before the operation in June and the op in October and when I look at it I think crickey how have I managed to get through that but I have found the strength from somewhere. The kindness of everyone on here are a great help to get through.

  • Hi . You are doing so well and having the staples out is another box on the road to recovery ticked off. It’s quite normal to feel anxious about things as you’ve had a big op and are probably a little bit in unknown territory and out of your comfort zone.

Keep taking it easy and rest when you need to. Short walks and getting up and about are great but don’t overdo it and if you feel like lying on the settee watching telly all day then do. If you do feel like venturing out in the car (not with you driving I hasten to add) then I found sitting on a cushion was more comfortable and then having another one between my tummy and the seatbelt helped too.

Sending you a big gentle virtual hug

    Take care

  • Hi

Thank you for your reply yes the last couple of days since the staples came out I have just lounged about .I don't know why but I thought I would be much more mobile when they came out but it was the opposite. Today I have to see the nurse to change the dressings as I am the one that drives we will have to get the bus which I am a bit nervous about the buses here in London get quite packed  and afraid of getting my pushed about .I have got a big badge to wear from London transport Please give me a seat .I will see today if it works !!

That's a great idea about the cushion for the seatbelt of a car as in the taxi home from the hospital I found myself holding the seat belt away from me for the entire journey

    Thanks again
