Hi All

Not sure if I’m looking for advice or support but here goes. My mum has just been diagnosed with bowel (rectum) cancer T4 and metastasis all over the liver.

Mum had an emergency operation to give her a colostomy becuSe they are not removing the large tumour as it’s too invasive and she is  not strong enough. Furthermore the bowel retracted and she ended up having 3 massive ops. They say the liver is inoperable.

She has just been sent home and I feel so helpless . Mum is 75 and lives on her own.

thanks for reading x

  • Hi

I am so sorry to read about your mum she has had a tough time of it and we are here to support you both .

It is such a shock to her such a diagnosis and I remember it well . Did they say if they were thinking of chemotherapy or are they involving any other people into her care at this point in time ?

We have quite a few different sections that you both can use on the site from carers groups to patient groups . We will certainly do our best to help creat a place you can come to , even just to off load as we do understand that being able to say exactly how your feeling without upsetting anyone is valuable in itself .

If you have a Maggie’s centre near by you might like to link in with them . We also have a helpline 0808 808 0000 who are happy to answer any questions or just to talk to on difficult days .

Take care and once again a big welcome to the forum ,

    Court

Welcome to the online community and it really is sad when new members join us  because we know that a major change has happened in their life and in your case I'm sorry to hear about your mum but you've joined a lot of people who understand what you are feeling.

No matter if its support or advice you are looking for you you've come to the right place for both, we have all a lot of knowledge between us and will share our experiences with you.

I take it that as your mother has been sent home and lives on her own that a care package has been put into place for her and she is fully supported by the GP practice as well as the local council who have a duty to ensure that your mum is comfortable at home and has the necessary support. Help is available to ensure she is getting any financial help and equipment she needs to make her comfortable and safe at home.

Ask us what help is available we'll  direct you to the correct places.

If you need to ask any questions at all please don't hesitate to come on here at anytime and ask and don't worry if you think it's a silly question we wont think it is, it is better to ask that not.

I see that you have joined us over in the stoma support group and anything you need to ask about mums stoma management just ask I'll be only too pleased to help.

Please keep in touch with us, you are always welcome to pop in and have a chat anytime, there's always someone around to answer you.
