Oh dear Im having such a wobble today  dont know which way to turn .Was diagnosed 2 weeks ago been for a MRI Scan and appointments have arrived this morning to have pre op consulations with nurse and aneathtistis(sorry for spelling). This isnt for another 3 weeks...Are these pre op things  normal  My consultant told me  mri scan then a meeting to see which way to go ..is this  pre op thing to see if im well enough to undergo an operation.I suffer bad health breathing etc on oxygen and overweight so cant see an operation being  feasable.Im so sorry for rabbling on ..just such a bad day Ive been great up till now it seems to be hitting me today the seriousness ff things .Apologies if Im n the wrong page

  • Hi lindala, a pre op assessment's done before any routine op. - as is seeing  the anaesthetist.

Obviously they will want to make sure you're  well enough to have the op, so it's in your best  interests to ask them any questions/ tell them about any health issues you think you might have. The MDT( multi disciplinary team) meeting  can then decide how to deal with these.

I would've thought your consultant would have said to you if he didn't think it was feasible to do the op.

Try n distract yourself today n chill in the sunshine x

Fear of the unknown is the worst thing. Once we know what we're facing, we find the strength to deal with it.

Hi and a warm welcome to the bowel group and yes you're in the right place.

Sometimes all the pre op assessments are just a formality and just to make sure you are okay for the op., and give you some more information, I've have one before every operation I've had and have had to see the anaesthetist sometimes even twice as I have heart problems, sleep apnoea, obese a couch potato etc etc etc and I've always passed them.

Between you and I in 2016 I had bariatric surgery and I had to attend the fat clinic for 3 years (and still have to attend for the rest of my life) before my name came out of the hat for the operation but again I had two appointments with the anaesthetist and one with the psychologist before the operation and I was one of the slimmer ones.

So my advice put them to the back of your mind think positive and keep yourself occupied for the next three weeks and it'll soon be over, I think many on here will agree that you see many overweight people in hospital having operations, so why not you, think positive.

We'll all be here for you over the weeks to come for you come on here and have a chat  have a rant or rave or let off steam whatever you feel like doing we're a friendly bunch in this group and we will be on hand to see you through this and be your support.

Just keep in touch whenever something is bothering you sit at the laptop or the mobile and start clicking away and speak to us, ask us anything we'll answer any questions you have.

You're part of the Mac family now

Btw. You never have to apologise in this group for rambling (see above).
