Does anyone have experience of this type of chemo they’re willing to share.  I had a Right memicolectomy on 2nd July and will be starting chemo in September.

many thanks, Gress Grinning

Just been taken off oxaliplatin by the oncologist today as it’s not working for me. I’ve had 7 cycles of it. Not many side effects to tell of. I had some nausea and a little pins and needles in my hands when touching cold items.

Many thanks for your response.  I am sorry to hear it hasn’t worked for you.

    Regards, Gress

  • Hi

I had oxaliplatin by iv and capecitabine in tablet form. Everyone reacts differently to chemo but there are lots of creams, anti-sickness meds to help with any side effects. I’ve attached a link to a previous post regarding some things you may experience

    Hope it all goes well

Dear Karen, many thanks for the link.  It is very helpful.  I am on holiday & have recovered well from the op.  I received the information about chemo yesterday & for some reason it upset me.  The list of side effects seemed very long, which is why I posted, I wanted to see the variation across this site.  Everybody reacts differently but it now sounds more manageable, although I still feel quite scared.  I am also suddenly wondering if the op has given me my life back or whether it was the start of a downward slide.  I am working hard on being positive.  I am making the most of the happy life I enjoy.

    warm regards, Gress GrinningThumbsup

  • Hi again and good on you for getting away on holiday.

Just wanted to say that how you’re feeling is totally normal - you’re recovering nicely from your op then wham they hit you with the chemo card. It’s not nice but it is doable. As well as the various pills and creams to help with any side effects they can also lower your doseage which often helps.

Yes the op has given you your life back but your emotions will probably be very mixed - grateful that the cancer has been removed, anxious about the upcoming chemo, feeling guilty that you aren’t turning cartwheels? The physchological side of cancer is quite a shock and something that we all struggle with. Have you had a look on the Life after Cancer page? There’s some really good posts there that make you realise that we all struggle with the aftermath.

Dear Karen, thank you again. I will follow the link & post again.  I have great family & friends but it’s a different conversation with people who are dealing with same/ similar situations.

i hope you’re doing well, Gress. GrinningThumbsup
