Should I feel concerned

Hello all,

Now I know this is probably not the best place to vent as I know people are struggling with this illness and this may not be my case however.

Rather a long story, I am a 25 year old male from Surrey. My problems first occurred in October last year when I had a bad bout of diarrhoea that lasted for just over a week. With this came the symptoms of bloating and chronic burping I just couldn’t stop and still can’t. My stools can range in size anywhere from big to thin usually I get my best stool in the morning which is rather on the larger side. There is never any blood in the stool I have had blood tests, check for blood in stool and a endoscopy because of supposed (acid reflux) which all came back normal just signs of burning in my throat. My doctors have reassured me it’s not colon cancer but this morning whilst doing my normal morning business (I have felt backed up for around 5/6 days) I pushed the first part then relaxed my body breathed slowly and it felt like a plug was pulled from the left part of my colon. I can’t even explain the noise it was as if air and toilet was firing through my left colon and out the other end. I also feel tired a lot but my blood are perfect if anything my red bloods were slightly high which is why I went in for my results!

i have had to push for a colonoscopy and go private (scheduled Thursday) do these accounts sound familiar to anyone? Also does a colonoscopy hurt? I’m terrified of the procedure  don’t know wether it’s the results or the actual test I am scared of.

Any reply’s are greatly appreciated I know no one is a doctor but I guess I’m looking for something that would set me apart from others.

Kind regards,

M

  • No, that doesnt sound anything like my bowel cancer symptoms. I note from your other posts that you have also been petrified of oesophageal cancer so I suspect that your problem is more anxiety based. Unfortunately, my colonoscopy was very painful, although perhaps others have had better experiences than me. So I would definitely take any sedatives you are offered to make it more comfortable!

Agreed I do believe I over think things.

thank you for your reply and the info on colonoscopy il be sure to take sedatives I heard the bowel prep isn’t to great either but for the peace of mind i guess it’s worth it!

    Hi

Another one here saying that your symptoms are not like my cancer ones either so I wouldn't read too much into them. My colonoscopy was not painful, slightly uncomfortable but not painful and they do take it slowly. Yes the bowel prep is worse than the scope but it is what you would expect, drinking gallons of odd tasting fluid followed by a long time on the loo.

    Good luck

    Thank you Nicky!

In times of worry I never know where to turn I don’t like using this as I know people here are diagnosed and are suffering, many people say bleeding is the first ever symptom which I can’t say I have at all. Sorry you are suffering but I wish you all the best and thank you for your info on the colonoscopy!
