Bowel changes

Hi everyone!  I have not been diagnosed with Cancer so don’t know if this is the right place to write this.  I was at my GP last week for something totally unrelated to my bowels but happened to mention that my bowel habits had done a 180 in that I was always constipated and had a hard time going to the toilet for weeks at a time.  Then about 4-5 months ago that changed, I go all the time now and it’s sometimes 4/5 times in a row.  My stools are loose now when they have never been before.  My GP ordered a blood test and the next day I got a text to phone the surgery, I phoned and the receptionist said the Dr had seen something in the bloods and she wanted me back in for a repeat blood test which is tomorrow.  I just want to know if this happened to anyone else.  I’ve also got a really dull throbbing pain in my abdomen all the time.  I have other health issues which cause fatigue so don’t know if I am any more tired than usual.  Sorry for the ramble but thanks for reading x

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

You are more than welcome here even if you don't yet have a cancer diagnosis and hopefully won't get one either!

I did not have bowel cancer, so can't help you with my experiences, but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies. This is probably because, unfortunately, this is such a busy group that posts can quickly fall off the first page before people have had chance to read them and reply. By replying to you it will bump your post back to the top of the page.

How did you get on at your GP's yesterday and when will you get the results of your blood test back? Of course when you saw her she might have already told you what she suspects it might be and that it's not cancer related.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Hi . Sorry that I missed your post - I’ve been working full time this week and I’m all to pot!

When I was diagnosed I was passing very loose thin stools with signs of blood but no pain or weight loss. There are other conditions which can cause similar symptons to Bowel Cancer such as IBS, Crohn, Colitis etc. It sounds like your doctor is on the ball and the results of your 2nd blood test will hopefully clarify things

Pleaee let us know how you get on and we’ll support you if we can

    Take care

    Hi ,

Ramble all you want. That is what we are here for.

My situation was the other way around from yours, in that I became very badly constipated almost overnight (tumour had caused an obstruction). No weight loss or bleeding from the bottom, and no pain apart from that caused by the trapped winds. It took numerous GP visits etc before anyone realised that I was not simply constipated.

Any sustained change in bowel habits, which could happen for many reasons, should be investigated thoroughly. Add to that the pain in your abdomen, and it is very good that your GP seems to be on the ball with this.

    Let us know what happens!

    All the best,

    Yolande
