Hello all,
As you have probably seen, I haven't been on here in a while.
After I finished my Radio-Chemo, the horrible side effects thankfully wore off after a couple of weeks, the sore bum bum skin healed perfectly. Many thanks to my friend SUDOCREM what a fantastic invention lol.
So since then I have been feeling pretty healthy, I had my scans last week (massive scanxiety!) and on Wednesday I went to see the consultant who said I had had a very good response to treatment, I think everything has shrunk, the tumor itself and the surrounding lymph sites - of which there were quite a few - so no it's surgery time. Actually, I wasn't expecting such a quick turnaround, Im having my op on MONDAY! EEK! Today I completed my bowel prep and tomorrow I've got to take a cocktail of antibiotics, anti wind meds, some nutri prep juices, stab myself with a syringe (will probably get hubby to do that!) all in preparation for...
ALIEN EVICTION PROCEDURE!
I think I am having LAR (they call it something different in Italian but I'm pretty sure it's that). I met the surgeon on Thursday, she is very nice and I was shocked - quite young - this freaked me out a bit but my hospital is a centre of excellence and I[m sure they wouldn't put someone in that position that they didn't think was capable... She said it should take about 4 hours, they might remove my ovary too as it was very close to the tumor at diagnosis (not now but she will check when she goes in then make a decision).
So I am quite apprehensive, more nervous about this than any other step along this path. I have never had an operation before, never had general anesthetic and I am a control freak so you can all imagine the thoughts going through my head.
Anyway, I am happy as I have been waiting for this since November... so Mr ALien, it's time to leave the building!
Anyone have any advice for me for staying calm? I am doing some pre-surgery meditations from youtube. Trying to focus on the main points, good shrinkage and it's time to cut it out and throw it in the bin.
Love and Rocky Balboa super strength to everyone.
Sxxx
Hello again, what fantastic news so very pleased for you, fab response to treatment.
very very quick turnaround to surgery, I guess the plus side is you don’t have much time to stress about it, and great your with a good hospital, although I bet language translation is hard in the mix.
we are in scanxiety time, will find out soon, hope for results like yours.
please keep posting as to how things go for you but in the meantime very well done and our best wishes for next step if getting your uninvited guest in the bin.
with all good wishes and kind thoughts your way
process xx
Awww thank you process
you are absolutely right about the quick turnaround - 5 days of anxiety better than 5 weeks...
the language thing is a problem sometimes (when the nurse mentioned the stoma nurse - a word I had never heard before in Italian - I was like whaaaat is that?! Then she repeated the word slowly and I figured it out).
so it’s scanxiety time for you and hubby, know the feeling well, so annoying isn’t it? I planned a couple of activities so I was doing stuff and had little time to dwell on things but obviously that worry is always there.
I wish you all the best and lots of alien bashing vibes to you for an excellent response!
I will definitely keep you all up to date from the hospital. I look forward to waking up with the knowledge that it’s all in the bin and I can focus on recovery and eating some yummy food as soon as I am able too (1 track mind lol).
Thanks so much for your reply

Whoo hoo Strongsami . Great to hear from you again and that you’re doing so well. Time to run up the next flight of steps and ko this tumour into the bin.
I’d never had an op before - in fact never stayed in hospital before - but was ‘pleasantly’ surprised by how well it seemed to go and how nice everyone was. I had an epidural which I was dreading but it was totally painless and I even managed to joke to the anaesthetist that I was glad I’d shaved my back as he stuck the tape on!
One thing a lot of people recommend taking into hospital is an extra long phone charger if you’ve time to source one of those?
Hope all goes well hun
Take care

Hi strongsami
Well done for shrinking the alien and on to the next step so quick as process says they are not giving you much time to think about it . I can't offer much advise on the op as I've not had it yet had my scans last Wednesday & seeing the oncologist on Thursday. I've never had an op either . All I can say is my husband keeps telling me the more positive I am the easier I will recover from surgery. He has had bladder cancer and now just has to have maintence treatments and has always been positive.
Easier said than done I know but try and zone your mind on nice things on the day
Thinking of you

We have been longing for this day for you but it’s so strange to wish surgery for someone . It’s a strange wee world indeed .
Great shrinkage though , brilliant response.
Now to pop the rest in some lab where it belongs .
take care and here’s to a smooth recovery ,

Awww thank you @court
I know it’s mad, since this whole thing started all I wanted was surgery and now here I am !
I am nervous but as everyone says - it’s totally normal. The important thing is to get the uninvited intruder out for good...
as soon as I’m able I’ll let you know how I hurt on.
Thanks to all of you, gonna hit the hay now and muster up all my Rocky Balboa strength for tomorrow

Thank you so much @peacock62
i think your husband knows exactly what he’s talking about!
I found some pre op meditations on YouTube so going to plug in and listen to them now!!
good luck with all of your stuff too, the waiting is definitely the worst part.
Wishing you lots of alien busting strength!
