Well, I got the news back today from the PIP people. It is somewhat miraculous... they have awarded my the enhanced rate for both living needs and mobility requirements. What is more, they did this without even giving me a medical examination! It seems that the form that was sent to them was so clear, they decided I did not need an assessment, and was clearly ill enough to qualify for the PIP assistance.
It was, of course, my local Macmillan office who helped fill the form in, and I cannot express my gratitude loudly enough.
Over the past twenty years, I applied for DLA more times than I can accurately remember, and was always rejected - in part, because my main health problem is so rare that I doubt they had a clue how badly my life was affected. The addition of my cancer diagnosis clearly tipped the scales for PIP to my favour. On paper, my current situation looks pretty awful: bowel cancer, stage three, unable to treat. Looks bad! Actually, I am pretty sure I am cancer free right now, but until the test results are examined, the old diagnosis stands. I reckon that is what swung the decision my way.
One final note: my income is now higher than any salary I received while working. This is not praise for the sum that I get frm PIP and ESA, but a damning testament to the really awful pay I received at various jobs during my working life...
I am so relieved. I am off to pay the outstanding bills that have been mounting up the past few months...
Robin.
So very pleased for you, no one should have to worry about finances whilst trying to cope with health issues too, to me that is the purpose of pip etc, well done to the team that did the form for you.
Many years ago my sick brother in law got his benefits stopped, we enlisted the help of someone from CAB to help with the appeal, he wa s going to come to my BIL flat to do it on the Monday as my BUL was too I’ll to go out, my BIL died that weekend, the same week he had benefits stopped as fit to work!
i can’t tell you how pleased I am for your success, your post shows what a difference it will make to you,
beet wishes xx
That's great news on the benefits front, I know from experience that living on such a tiny income is a struggle without having an obscure complaint. Every time I've had a medical assessment for my mental health they always say you're fit to work and I've gone to tribunal twice so kudos to you and your able helpers for making your problems so clear the PiP assessors were probably in tears!

The chap who did the medical review of my application actually called me for more information, to be sure he had understood it all properly. And then last week, another person called me to ask if I had improved any since applying. To which I truthfully said no. They were both very sympathetic and thorough. I really have had amazing luck with this sort of thing recently.

My experience with a mental health issue is that they look at your body and have already made a decision. One health assessor asked do you go shopping? I said yes, once a fortnight I take my mother out to get groceries we spend about an hour doing this. She turned into my mother and I go browsing the shops for 4 hours a day! My mother was 87 at the time.
If I try to move to Pip they will certainly not give it to me they really have a down on mental health here, they seem to view us all as freeloaders. I would willingly swap places with not just the DWP twats but with the some of the ministers that think a little anxiety before a flight is the same as an anxiety disorder
