well kev had his routine blood tests 2 weeks ago.. he has been in terrible pain and very anaemic.. we hadnt heard back from the doctors, so i decided to check his results online.. it said everything was abnormal and the cancer had spread to his lung... very concerning..as he only has one, he lost the left one 12 years ago due to his first fight with cancer.. i immediatley rang the surgery and was told a doctor would ring me back... so, after 4 long hours, a new doctor rang me and said she was sorry, but she had posted the wrong results, and infact kev only had severe anaemia!!!!.. she was very non-chalant and just said she was new and didnt know how the online thing worked yet!!... we still cant get an appointment until the 18th july to sort the anaemia and pain relief sorted.. im soooo angry!
How absolutely appalling. I’ve had to read your post twice as I couldn’t believe it. I think I would be ringing the practice manager to log a complaint and demand an emergency appointment. Could you ask for a telephone appointment with Kevs usual doctor to express your concerns - they can normally book you an appointment themselves? If Kev is severely anaemic then they need to be ascertaining why.
Hope you get things sorted - please keep us posted
Take care

hi Karen
yes.. kev is now writing a letter, we are still waiting for the doctor to phone back, its appalling they way they have treated us. i rang again this morning to try and get an appointment sooner, and the receptionist hung up on me. so i phoned again, and was abruptly told all the doctors are busy and he would have to wait! xx
Unfortunately since being diagnosed and having gone through treatment etc I have become so despondent with not just the NHS but the medical profession in general. Nonchalant and arrogant sum them up based on my experience. So glad the outcome for Kev was a good one x
well he has written a letter of complaint, i went to the surgery myself and asked to speak to a doctor.. the reason he is anaemic is because the hospital doctor took him off iron pills due to a blocked stoma, but didnt know kevs history, he didnt realize about his operation of a tpe and apr which resulted in a loss of bladder, bowel, rectum, anus, prostate and now having a a urostomy to go with the colostomy!... so he is back on iron pills and max strength morphine and they have even given him some gel for his scar tissue and nerve damage in his legs... so my persistance must have worked lol xx
Well done mandajayne on your persistence it's a pity that we have to do all this to ensure that our health needs are looked after
.
I have found when I am in hospital that doctors remove, change or add drugs without telling us why as if we don't need to know.
I carry a list of my usual medication, the dosage, the time I take it and what it's for and when the nurses hand out the drugs I ask them to explain what they've given me and if anything is missing or added I ask why and if they don't know I ask to speak to a doctor for an explanation and if I'm satisfied I'll take what they give but I do make sure that they are aware of why I take it, I don't take medication for the fun of it but by necessity.
It's my body I need to know what's going into it i.e. no good giving me slow release capsules or coated tablets they run straight through me right into my bag intact and do me no good but explaining that to many doctors is like knocking your head against a brick wall.
I'm all for self Medication in hospital but they don't like to do it for some very strange reasons like I may take the wrong pill at the wrong time or take too many to which I answer "who do you think does it at home?" but I can't shift them.
Keep preserving till you get the answer you want and if you don't you have the right to take it to the next level and the hospital should supply you with details including the name of the organisation, they'll assume we'll be too busy trying to get well to keep complaining but if we want answers,we have to keep asking for them.
