Well that's what mum calls his bowel cancer.

Dad started to go down hill in feb'18, started with a heart attack, two hospitals and six weeks later he came home with two stents being fitted.  Towards the end of August '18, he was having tests done, colonoscopy and endoscopy, not really sure why these were being done, however he had his colonoscopy, and was at the hospital for the endoscopy, when he had an angina attack, which landed him back in hospital after being in around 3 weeks and no transfer in sight to our main cardiac unit, I asked if his results were through from the colonoscopy, they were. When the Dr asked shall I close the curtains, I just knew what was wrong. From then on for a another week, tests, scans, CT, MRI etc. Finally the results were in t3.5 tumour. No stent fitted, he couldn't have surgery, because of the heart probs, we even saw Mr Koo, a really nice gentleman. Home he came, saw s colerectal surgeon, she ref through to oncology,. He was only being offered five radiotherapy sessions, no other treatment poss.

Now up to date this saga,. Mum is having memory problems, dad lives in a bubble, so I go to all drs and hospital appts last Friday saw another cardiologist, as dad said his angina was getting worse.

He is having pain in right shoulder,, and his stomach is very distended, could this mean the cancer has spread. I just need some advice really, what to do next, back to oncologist, or gp, we no they will only offer pain relief, although dad says no pain, we no different. Could it have spread to his stomach, or would it be another organ that would cause these symptoms. Shas58

  • Sorry to hear about your dad. You have a very full caring job there and I hope your keeping ok within yourself .

When Bowel cancer spread it can often go to the liver and lungs due the lymphatic systems that are connected to the Bowel as I understand it . Liver Mets can sometimes cause referred pain in the right shoulder so it might be worthwhile given he is also experiencing bloating to have a word with his team . He might need his medication reviewed for pain control . I also hasten to add it could be a variety of other things but given his diagnosis I think your right to check it out . Getting the best help is a good plan .

Macmillan has a helpline 0808 808 0000 . The staff there can help chat all this through with you .

Hi Court, I thought out could be his liver, although his colour isn't showing any signs of yelllow, as such  if anything it looks kind of grubby, looking, and if that makes sense.

I have said to. Mum about contacting the specialist nurses, fingers crossed she does, if she hasn't done so in the next few days, I will do it. Thanks for the info very useful

  • Hi Shas,

That is good your thinking about getting it checked out . My mum has only turned yellow once and that was straight after liver surgery . Her liver actually coped really well with the Mets and continued to function well .

Hope he gets some relief from the shoulder pain soon .

    Take care,
