Hi has anyone had a similar experience.... whilst checking my rectal tumour for which I had surgery last October the tracer also lit up my tonsils. Right 6.3 and left 4? Has anyone on here had a similar result? Does this always happen with tonsils? Should I have a tonsillectomy? Hope someone can help me?
Hi Ewok ,
How are you keeping ?
Have a chat with your team but that is the problem with PET scans they pick up all sorts of benign stuff like inflammatory issues . I would hold off till you speak with your team . I have given up trying to make sense of my mum’s PET scans . They mentioned so much uptake , none of which concerned the radiologist or oncologist. I would only worry if the report stated concern .
Hope your doing well .

Thanks court. That’s a very good point. Some of this has been lost in time unfortunately as it was never initially followed up. Hopefully more news this week.
So as far as progress it’s been a hard slog but we’re getting there slowly (trying to get my old life back ... with a few compromises ). Also irrigating which is huge step and is a must try for anyone with a colostomy after some initial essential training by a stoma nurse.
Hi, I was wondering if you could let me know if the tonsil area was a anything to worry about or not? My husband had it too and went for checkup today and they want to do an MRI to be sure as the ultrasound showed a mark and a swollen tonsil but can’t be sure what it is. They said they doubt it’s anything but want to double check. Im so worried!
Hi, so this was 4 years ago, the consultant was pretty certain I needed a double tonsillectomy, I had no other issues other than recovering from surgery 6-9 months earlier. I couldn’t cope with the idea of more surgery at that time so after a frank discussion, the consultant agreed to wait and see especially as I pointed out my tonsils felt fine, I had no symptoms and indeed she hadn’t identified a good reason other than the tonsils where ‘hot’ as recorded on the pet scan. No further investigations were arranged and I can still be referred back if I request. An MRI identifies most issues and it’s relatively quick so if I was concerned re my own situation I’d request further investigation. Your team sounds as though they are on the ball. Double checking is a good idea, I wasn’t offered that choice. Good luck.
Thanks so much for coming back to me so quick. They put a camera up his nose and have said the tonsil looks a little swollen in comparison to the others so just want to check it out to be sure but they seem to think it would be a shock if it was anything. Just makes you worry so much. He starts chemo on Friday. Been through so much already and I just feel for him. Each step forward feels like 2 back… thanks again
