    Hi

Welcome to the community. I’m so sorry your experiencing bowel issues following your treatment.

I haven’t experienced this myself but thought you may like to Ask a Nurse about this and see if they can give you some advice.

I hope that you get your appointment soon.

    Wishing you the very best

    Hi Georgie

Can I add my welcome to the online community and I am sorry to read that you are having problems but whilst I am truly sorry to see you here I'm glad you found us and reached out to us and we can start to be of help and support to you.

Being a male I have not experienced this type of problem and wonder if you've been told what could be the discharge as it sounds as if you experiencing a rectovaginal fistula

A rectovaginal fistula is an abnormal connection between the lower portion of your large intestine — your rectum — and your vagina. Bowel contents can leak through the fistula, allowing gas or stool to pass through your vagina.

A rectovaginal fistula may result from:

    Injury during childbirth

Crohn's disease or other inflammatory bowel disease

Radiation treatment or cancer in the pelvic area

Complication following surgery in the pelvic area

The following leaflets might be of interest to you,

    Macmillan leaflet

    Rectovaginal fistula information leaflet

I do hope that your medical people have been giving you advice and support.

My little bit of advice to you is to keep your fluid levels up to avoid dehydration exactly as you had to do with your stoma you should also watch you nutrients as you could be losing a lot through the discharge.

I know that experience is not pleasant and will be very worrying for you but it is something that can be cured through surgery but sometimes more than one attempt to repair might be necessary.

You should ask the nurse at your GP surgery for pads to catch the discharge.

I hope my thoughts on the cause of the problem are of help to you but I must ask you to note that I'm not a medical person and therefore the above is only my thoughts and not a diagnosis of your problem

I would ask that you keep us informed about your treatment and progress through this new journey as I've not come across this previously on the site and your experiences, I think, will be of great interest to the many female members of both this group and the Ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy and any other stoma support in the future.

I look forward to hearing from you again soon but in the meantime please feel free to ask me any questions that you have, I believe that there is no such thing as a silly question (just the one never asked) but if you have a question rolling around in your head ask it and get it answered and put your mind at rest.

Here from soon, I am Ian they call me the  and I'm here to help you as much as I can, please ask me anything and I really do mean anything at any time

I hope your appointment comes through soon and treatment can start without further delay.

    Best wishes

    Ian
