hubby on long course chemo radiotherapy 5 weeks just at end of first two weeks. Rectal cancer
last Friday he got chest pains and low BP same on sat so went to AE. He got checked out told heart tests bloods ecg all ok so relieved,. We saw oncologist yesterday and told her symptoms she said side effect is spasm heart, vasospasm and has stopped chemo.
We were disappointed as obviously want good outcome but she said radiotherapy does 90% of work and his body is not happy not risking heart. His platelets has also dropped.
she wants to see him again tomorrow , we have to respect her professionalism and experience and trust.
anyone else had this?
Thanks x
Thanks for asking Court, she asked questions etc but he had chest pains again yesterday but not as bad at all so because of that she got him to have another ecg and more bloods taken but said ecg ok see him again on Tuesday we were told it’s a rare side effect less than 5% so very unlucky I guess.
Our daughter was with us and she asked about chemo after surgery and she said don’t worry there other chemo drugs, again we will have to wait and see and just do this one day at a time.
i have read others posts and can see set backs others have and had and how they accepted and overcame,
i was not in a good place on Tue but more accepting today and less anxious
i guess there is little if anything we can do to change it,
my mantra was and is when I remember these days !!!!
The Serenity Prayer
accept the things you cannot change
change the things you can..
and the wisdom to know the difference
thanks Court xx
Sorry he is still having chest pain , hopefully that will subside soon . So pleased his ECG was looking good .
She sounds as though she has a back up plan if required and that’s great news . Now to just get him through this part .
I think you are doing incredibly well . There are so many aspects to adjust to and I found once you understand the process and the options to overcome the side effects it becomes more manageable. But I always say to my family I only get anxious because I care and I will never apologise for caring .
I love the serenity pray,
take care ,
Court
