Hi.
I have had major surgery for rectal cancer. As well as the rectal tumour they also did a hysterectomy and removed my ovaries. No cancer in my womb. I think they just thought they may as well get rid of anything i didnt need. Anyway, its now 6 weeks since my operation and i have a permanent stoma which has been no bother. The thing that im still suffering from is extreme fatigue some days. I thought that by now i would be feeling a lot fitter. Anyone had the same experience,
hi there.. my partner had a total pelvic exenteration last november.. and still gets tired and exhausted very quickly.. your body has to recover, and is using all your energy to heal.. dont worry.. rest up and take it easy xx
Hi Carolcassa,
You've come such a long way now, and in your mind you're probably miles ahead in your recovery than you body physically is! Six weeks after surgery is still quite soon, so listen to your body. I had my surgery in 2012, and it took me several months to get over the fatigue. In fact, about 4 weeks after my surgery, my sister came to visit me at home and I suddenly became so tired, I had to say to her I needed a sleep so I did! A wee while later I was as bright as a button! Build your fitness up, but be prepared for fatigue - but ultimately that fatigue will disappear!
Linda :-)
