Hi Friends,

Can anyone offer any advice.

I had a colostomy in September 16 after my second bout of bowel cancer and have been left with a rectal stump. I produce mucus frequently but since the start of the year I have been getting pains in that area which are getting worse to the point I am missing work. I have been put on stronger painkillers by my GP (Naproxen) but am still getting the pains. No one as yet has had a look inside.

Any ideas?

  • Hi a600ner, sorry you are having this problem.

    Someone needs to examine you.

Do you have any more follow up at the hospital? If so you could ring the colorectal nurse and see if they can see you. Otherwise a visit to the GP would be a good idea. If you can't be seen and it gets worse I would ring 111. They can often arrange for you to be seen at a walk in centre, or the SAU at the hospital.

Try not to worry, there could be lots of causes, but it does need looking at.

    Big hugs xxxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

Hi. I know this post is from a very long time ago, but I am in a similar situation, managing the pain with painkillers from GP. I wondered if you ever got a solution? Many thanks

  • Hi . I don’t think that  is still active on the board but I’ve tagged them just in case. However, as you say, it is an old post so I would suggest that you contact your support nurse for guidance. Have you had surgery recently?

Thank you for your response. I had my surgery in June. Yes I’ve spoken with my stoma nurse and GP and I also have a sigmoid flex booked for Jan, which I’m hoping will reveal more. It’s only a few more weeks to wait till then, but I’m so keen to get a solution as it seems to have just taken over my life!
