Just curious

Hi all,

after a whirlwind few months, and unfortunately a failed chemotherapy cycle, I was moved onto immunotherapy using Centuximab and encorafenib. Started this one month ago and I reacted badly to the Centuximab through heart palpitations and shivers so treatment had to be stopped. I continued with the encorafenib tablets and I developed face paralysis down my left side which is apparently a rare side effect (less than 10%) and none of my consultants or clinical nurses had experienced this. We tried this treatment again yesterday and unfortunately I reacted again meaning this treatment is now off the table and we are gutted as it seemed to be the best fit for my mutated tumours. Just wondered if anyone else struggled with this treatment and what they moved onto next? Any success? Thanks in advance

  • Hi

Sorry to hear that . My mum used Cetuximab. That must have given you quite a fright .

I think Bowel cancer U.K. has some people who are very knowledgeable about the Mutation you might have . Is it a Braf mutation ?

Seems to depend on factors like MSI which line of treatment they might peruse next but they have some patients that seemed to be very informed from what I remember and it might be good to connect with them .

    Take care ,

  • Hi Court,

thank you for taking the time to reply. I hope it worked for your mum as heard lots of good things about it, hence so disappointed my body wouldn’t allow it. Yes that Braf mutation does sound right. I’ve been told about trying a different chemotherapy again alongside another 2 potential treatments so being hit with a triple but will find out more next week. Also being put forward to Christie centre and some private consultants as I must be an interesting rare case lol. Not sure what the MsI is but I will research what you have put forward so thank you. Best wishes to you and yours. Dan

  • I think the Nice guidelines are in place for Braf mutations which might help you see treatment options . If you are not familiar with them they are the established guidelines the NHS uses for treatment protocol . You can access they through a Google search

If you have  Microsatellite instability MSI you might have some different immunotherapy options outwith the targeted treatment .

But do ask what you mutations are as it allows you to narrow down options .

Also if you use tools like AI it can help if you are specific.

Treatmenr for braf mutations have come a long way but my mum actually did best with plain old chemo . She did well in Cetuximab too . She was a stage 4 patient for 15 years . Keep chipping away  at it . It’s good to know the next pathway .
