Clear Fit test but still have "red flag "symptoms

Hi Nanagran23 There are several symptoms that can cause blood in stools like piles, ibs, colitis, diverticulitis, crohns, polyps and colitis. The result of your FIT test is reassuring but your GP may still refer you to for a colonoscopy to check what is causing the blood?

Hi there and sorry you're going through this. I have had bowel surgery and now on chemo but had no symptoms except tiredness. Blood tests showed anaemia and FIT test confirmed bleeding. I had been doing FIT tests every 2 years with no issue. My colonoscopy showed Stage 3 bowel cancer and consultant felt it had been there a very long time and was puzzled at negative results in past.

I guess what I'm trying to say is just ask GP for urgent Colonoscopy to clear this once and for all. Not good for you worrying about symptoms which could be easily treated. If there was a Polyp present and causing fresh bleeding that can be removed during the colonoscopy. Oh and incase you are worried the sedation you get for Colonoscopy make it an absolute breeze to have done! Hope this gives some clarity for you but feel free to ask any questions xxx

I hope you are coping ok with the chemo and not having too many side effects.

Having spoken to a practice nurse likely outcome when I see GP is none urgent referral for colonoscopy  but,if this is the case, I will push for an urgent referral .

I am more worried about keeping the prep down than the actual colonoscopy itself

I think you need to seek further help. Obviously you could have one of many conditions, this is not necessarily cancer, but FIT tests are not 100 percent reliable. I was diagnosed with stage three cancer following a FIT test. I had had a FIT test two years previously with clear results, yet I was told that the cancer must gave been there for years. I was told that tumours don't bleed all the time hence the previous clear result.

I don't understand why, if people have seen blood, they aren't referred immediately for a colonscopy, rather than wait for a FIT test to confirm it. Or not, incorrectly. 

I did originally ask to be referred for a colonoscopy but told had to do fit test,them blood tests then appointment with GP. Have an appointment in 2 weeks (first available when booked 10 days ago)

Yes thats the horrible bit. I forced down my last glass and made myself sick! Only to be told not many people manage to take it all!!! I won't push it next time. My chemo is day by day very different with side effects but generally better than I expected. I have additional snoozes but never a whole day in bed. Push for everything you can as its your own health. Tell your doctor its too much worry for it to be non urgent! Hope you get on ok but let me know. Big hugs from Scotland xx
