Hi all
my partner has just been diagnosed with rectal cancer and has at least 4 mets on his liver. We are currently waiting for an appointment with an oncologist. We don’t know where to start but it would be so good to hear your stories of hope as it all seems so bleak at the moment……
Hi Tcd ,
Try not to panic (easier said than done). I’m stage 4 and they are aiming at a full cure with my treatment. A friend had it come back twice as lung mets and is now about 12 years cancer free.
trust your team, there will probably be lots of scans and then the mdt team will make a plan. Once the plan is in place it will feel more manageable.
wishing you all the best!

Hi Tcd
My mum had two liver resections . The liver is such a robust organ . She had disease in five out the eight lobes of her liver . It took two years to achieve full stability . Then she went to a centre of excellence for the liver . They do all the liver transplants too and well set up .
She had 13 years after that and died in her 80s . Her liver regenerated and fully functioned and gave her no further issues .
They can also do radio frequency ablation . All have criteria but going straight to chemo gets stability and hopefully shrinkage and allows them to preserve more healthy liver tissue .
She saw off over ten mets .
A difficult time going through treatment but lots of different options to manage the disease .
Take care ,
Court
