Following anterior resection and removal of colon tumour, cells found in my blood vessels following biopsy so 8 cycles of chemotherapy advised.
I have the DPD liver enzyme deficiency and have started on half dose of capecitabine, after my first round my bloods showed elevated liver function, it was decided to cautiously increase the second dose by 120mg.
I can’t help feel if I continue on the lower dosage surely it’s not doing what it needs to effectively? I asked the oncologist, but did not really get a conclusive answer.
Has anyone else had the same thoughts if in the same situation?
Hi Mosty
I have the deficiency too. For me they did half dose for twice as long. It would be extremely dangerous for you to have the full dose as I understand it can even be fatal.
chemo works in cycles and not all of the cells it needs to kill off are active at the same time. So a lower dose isn’t something to worry about. I might even make it more effective.
trust the experts is my motto!
best wishes
