My cancer was missed in my August 2024 colonoscopy. Symptoms got worse over the following year, resulting in a T3N2aV1 rectal tumour found in my August 2025 colonoscopy.
I have had LARS and an Ileostomy last November and chemo last January. Only managed 2 rounds. I was affected so badly by it, I quit early. My oncologist warned me about not having the full treatment but fully understood why I stopped (I was in a bit of a state at that point).
I'm just not sure what happens now. I was told I would go straight to surveillance but not sure whether I will be contacted or if I'm supposed to sort stuff myself. I know I have to book for CEA blood tests every 6 months but that's it.
I'm really feeling my mortality at the moment.
Hello RosieL25
Sorry to hear of your experience and the fact that you've been left so worried. You should have contact details for a cancer nurse specialist and they'll be able to talk you through next steps and offer some reassurance. If you don't have any contact details then call the hospital you're under and ask to be put through to the colorectal nurse specialist. From my experience it's they who normally schedule appointments for CEA bloods etc so will be happy to advise. All the ones I've spoken to have been really lovely and very helpful.
I hope you get some helpful and reassuring advice to put your mind at ease.
Take care x
