Hello,

I'm 52 years old and I still can't believe it but I have to accept the reality.

I've been diagnosed with T2N1 colon cancer and I'm waiting for chemotherapy. I'm very disappointed because I first went to the GP in 2023 and they said my stool blood is because of hemorrhoids. Nothing mentioned about a possible cancer considering my age, I could've gone privately for a colonoscopy. I also had a CT scan in 2024, I had kidney stones but also something else came up and the doctor said it could be cancer. He sent me for a blood test and that was all. He could've mentioned a colonoscopy or a CT scan with contrast but another opportunity to detect it earlier was missed. I feel so let down by the doctors because they just didn't care in my opinion.

I've been told the chemotherapy is recommended before the laparoscopic surgery (3-4 months from now) so anxious time ahead for me.

Not sure what else to say at present as I'm still in shock being hit with this news.

Thanks

  • As someone recently also diagnosed, I appreciate your current state of shock. I also feel there was a missed opportunity after presenting with blood in stool (though I did have minor piles)

However you don't and can't know for sure and it won't help you to stress about that.

Where abouts in your colon is it?

There are so many positive stories when this is caught at the earlier stages, it's treatable

I can't offer much wisdom, but I wish you all the best with your treatment.

  • Hello,

Thanks for your reply, following the colonoscopy I had a report with the findings. Malignant tumor at a distance of 30 cm from anal verge, distal sigmoid lesion most likely CA. 12 sigmoid colon biopsy taken. After 10 days or so I had the CT scan with contrast and a week after the appointment with the consultant. The ugly truth was confirmed (I must admit it could've been worse but I was hoping for better news)and I've been told it's on the left hand side. Even though the consultant explained us quite a lot about my situation, the information was too much to take in. I didn't get a report though and I had to ask 3-4 times how big is the tumor (3.3 cm) and the stage. I'm pretty sure they said the tumor is on my sigmoid as well. I was told it's treatable and the chances to get rid of it is quite high. They did mention a trial for my treatment and it's better to have the chemo before the surgery rather than after.

I'm currently waiting to hear from the oncologist regarding the chemo treatment before the laparoscopic surgery (around 4 months from now on).
