My husband was told he has bowel cancer(4cm) following a colonoscopy on 23rd July. He has since had a MRI and a CT scan.(he is a fit healthy 81 year old)
We have had no contact from the hospital until this morning we got an appointment with a surgeon to discuss procedures on 8th October. I rang to try to make it earlier but they said this was the first available appointment. Is this normal to have to wait for 22 months?
Don’t think it’s unusual, I was diagnosed as stage 3 rectal cancer, with a 4.5cm tumour, 22 May and started my long course chemo and radiotherapy to attempt to shrink the tumour on 23 July. Easier said than done; but try not to worry. Best of luck.
Sounds about normal, and actually bowel tumours are very slow growing, so a few weeks will make no difference to the treatment plan, or the outcome. There will likely be a further wait if they decide on surgery first, Frustrating, but not unusual.
If you click on my name you will see a summary of my own experience, which will give a sense of timing of what might be your husband's treatment plan. There is no standard path for everyone. There will be quiet spells when you think that nothing is happening, but that is normal. I learnt not to worry about things over which I had no control; it doesn't achieve anything.
