My mission this week has been to give my Oncologist a headache.

I've been placed on Lonsurf with Avastin after two lines of chemo last year that didn't help lung metastases much.

My oncologist seemed pessimistic today as if this new like of chemo is literally just to make you last a month or so longer than having nothing at all.

So I'm here to hopefully, keep an update to give anyone else any information and hopefully please share any experience you've had on Lonsurf with Avastin too.

There didn't seem.to.be much information from my oncologist when I asked.

Thanks! Neil

  • Hi  I’ve personally no experience of this chemo but if you type Lonsurf and/or Avastin in the search box at the top left of the screen then it will bring up previous posts? I think the most recent one was

It would be good to have some up-to-date feedback so please let us know how you get on?

    Take care

  • My Oncologist started me on Panitumab in May 2022 for Metases on the lungs following a bowel resection in 2014. My CT scan  in August 2024 showed the Nodules had started growing again so in October i started on Lonsurf and Avastin, thankfully when I had my January scan some of the Nodules had shrunk. Now continuing with the Lonsurf and Avastin. The only trouble is when I staretd this cycle the hospital was not able to supply enough Lonsurf to complete the cycle and they would ring me when they had some, I rung M onday and they still didn't so will ring again today as my supply runs out today.

  • Additionally I think I have less side effects than on the Panitmab regime

  • My husband starts Longsurf and Avastin today, just getting ready to go to the hospital. Good to know you have had some shrinkage Heart️

  • Hope everything goes well. I joined a local Macmillan group and it comes with a half hour gym session each week. So far on a week of Lonsurf I feel okay.... Gym excersizes completed slightly better than last week. No main side effects to report. But my doctor wouldn't let me take the IV Avastin this week because of an open wound from.my surgery in December. So fingers crossed next week goes well. How are you both coping?

  • That lines up with my experience so far. No side effects of the Lonsurf to report really. Hopefully it's still working though

  • Hi  , I'm on Avastin/Lonsurf as 3rd line therapy. I have lung metastases and one nodule on the liver. The only side effects have been severe diarrheoa after cycle 2 and neutropenia. Onco reduced the dose slightly and I'm getting injections to boost my white blood cells. Otherwise feeling fine. CT scan after 2nd cycle showed shrinkage of all lesions, except for one that has remained stable in the lungs. Next scan due end of March, after cycle 5. I know mean survival is only 10.8 months in the clinical trial, but there is someone on the Bowel Cancer UK support group who was diagnosed with stage 4 and has been taking avastin for 11 years (check out Strive for five)!

  • Hi Cecile.  Good to hear from you and brilliant to hear you have shrinkage and it's working for you! I'm crossing all my fingers and toes for you. Not so great having those side effects, but all things considered if you're like me, I'll take the side effects any day for a good end result. Let's push that mean average right up. So far on Lonsurf for me is just some tiredness. I think my next scan is due around the same time as yours.

I'm not about to give up anytime soon and it's hearing from people like yourself that gives me strength and hope

  • Hi Francis hope you're doing okay. Any news with your supply?

  • Yes I got my supply just in time. I went for my midcycle infusion of Avastin this afternoon but the chemo unit did not have the drug and upon investigation discovered that pharmacy had not made it up because they had been told I was unwell. Now back on Thursday to have it. Fingers crossed

Thanks for asking  Francis ( Jlikescats is my wife )
