I posted just before Christmas saying how I was panicking and assuming the worst case scenario due to a positive FIT test after seeing my doctor with abdominal pain and mucus on my poop. I was also worried about the colonoscopy itself and I basically let all of this ruin my Christmas. The fit test value was 31 and arrived the day before Christmas Eve.

Today I had my colonoscopy, the prep really wasn’t that bad and did it’s job but my anxiety was through the roof. All of the team at the hospital were really supportive and helpful and the colonoscopy itself really wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I had no sedative and just used the gas and air a couple of times when it got uncomfortable but it was never really painful.

The result of the colonoscopy was all clear apart from one tiny polyp which the surgeon said was most probably benign, he did take it off which again was completely painless and it will be sent off to histology. The surgeon said that there was nothing that could have caused the blood in the FIT test and it must just have been an anomaly. I watched the whole thing on the screen and it lasted about twenty five minutes.

The point of this post is to reassure anyone in the same position as I was with anxiety and panic through the roof, that no matter how much the voice in your head try’s to convince you that it’s all over, it will most likely be fine and the colonoscopy itself is nothing to fear. Good luck to anyone in the same position as I was and I really hope this helps to quell your fears just a little.
