Hi Moryn It’s called ileus and it’s not very pleasant. It usually resolves after a few days so hopefully your dad will turn the corner soon? I’ve attached a link to a post from a few months ago from a lady whose husband was in the same position which may hopefully reassure you a bit?

Oh you’re poor dad x it sound like ileus (sleepy bowels). Your dad is in the best place - hospital. Ileus is really common after surgery - which is a big shock to the system, especially our delicate colon. I Had post-op vomiting too - not nice. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that your dad gets over this post-op hump soon! x
Hi Mandy,
Hope your dad’s vomiting is settling. I also vomited absolutely gallons of bile after surgery and also had to have a nasal tube. Weirdly, I didn’t feel sick and I had very little going into my system, but it was ileus- my bowel just stopped doing anything so the only way out for liquid was either into a catheter from my badder or out of my mouth. The nasal tube gave me a really horrible sore throat, which they gave me Strepsils for. It took a couple of days for it to settle and then I was only very gradually allowed water, then clear liquids and it was very gradual before I could actually eat.
It amazed me just how much liquid came out, so I imagine it could look quite alarming. I was reassured that this was quite normal so I don’t think you should be too alarmed. Poor dad and poor you. I hope he’s on the mend soon.

Oh, your poor dad - I do feel for him. I also had really bad sickness after my op due to ileus, although I started to recover after around 24-48 hours. THe ng tube stayed in for days though and I was only on fluids for most of my time in hospital.
I hope he gets better soon - sending you a virtual hug.
I was really sick after the op.i went home after 5 days but was back in the next day for another 5 days as I kept vomiting. I had adhesions, which may be an issue for your father? Keep a very light low fibre diet for a week or two until it settles down.
