Hi,
I have been put in the 2WW for colorectal cancer symptoms. I have a CT scan today and then colonoscopy on Tuesday. Is it common to get CT results straight away or will it be a wait?
I’ve been very lucky in getting appointments very quickly but the wait is driving me mad!
thank you
Hi Kerrbear94 I don’t think you’ll be told the CT results on the day but you normally meet with someone after your colonoscopy to discuss what they’ve seen or actioned?
Hope it goes ok

I don;t believe you'll get immediate feedback from the CT scan as the people operating the machines aren't the same as those who interpret the results - they'll send the output back to the consultant or whoever intiated the scan request.
You should get some feedback straight after the colonoscopy though - although they may take biopsies for further examination if needed, it will be fairly obvious to the person doing the colonscopy whether there are polyps, potential tumours or other things present.
good luck with it all (especially the colonscopy prep!) - the waiting is always the most frustrating bit ...
Thank you for your reply. Yes the waiting really is! I’m trying to not think the worst but it just consumes my thoughts.
yes, I’ve heard the prep is horrendous! I have to take my first prep at 8pm Monday so won’t be getting much sleep!
Waiting is always the worst part because there's nothing to do. When active, you feel better. Having a plan focuses you and you can't plan unless you know what you're planning for.
Some people tolerate the prep better than others. If you follow a low residue diet for a few days prior to prep, it will make things a little easier. Some doctors tell you this but not all. Drinking the prep itself is the worst part.
Good luck on Tues!
Hi Sweetie,
The prep literally empties you. You start off thinking “how bad can this be?” and it depends on you. You will poo everything that’s in your colon out. It starts off reasonably solid and then in the end it’s just like weeing out of your bum. It’s not wonderful, but the cleaner it is the more they can see. With the colonoscopy, you can also watch it yourself if you want, because the operator watches it on a telly. I did and I’m really glad I did because it made my cancer very real for me, which helped me to accept it and cope. It also made me more happy about surgery because I wanted it OUT!
The waiting is hard, but soon it will be done and you’ll know what you’re dealing with. I hope it all comes out positively for you, but if it’s not please, please remember where we are and remember that the ofds are most definitely in our favour ️
