Don’t know where to start

Hi, I’m usually on another forum, breast cancer, 6 years down the line and doing well. Just undergone first stage of reconstruction of my breast and recovering when I was called for a routine colonoscopy. I have IBD since my 20s but over the last 20 years have managed with little or no medication.

So yesterday I had my colonoscopy, and a number of small polyps were spotted and removed. The last one found was right at the end of my colon next to my rectum and was highlighted as ‘at least highly dysplastic’  - when he came to talk to me….reading in between the lines….he believes it’s cancer. Urgent mri and rush of histology of biopsies. I know from the whole breast cancer thing (see profile) that things are never quite what they seem and information is sometimes at a need to know level. I’m struggling to process what’s going on. When I was diagnosed with BC I went into meltdown and have been on ‘helpful’ medication ever since…

So now I wait…I just wanted to dump my thoughts somewhere….so thank you!

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the bowel board. I’m so sorry that you’ve had such a rough few years and just as you thought you were out of the woods - this.

If I’m completely honest, the people doing the colonoscopies tend to have a pretty good idea about what they’re seeing but it’s not 100% until confirmed by the biopsy. If it is confirmed as bowel cancer then there is a lot of treatment available - it’ll be tough but you’ve done it before and we’ll be with you all the way if you have to do it again,

Please let us know how you get on and we’re here whenever you need to talk

    Take care

    Karen x
