Hi all, Found out i’ll be having treatment soon, delayed by 3 weeks as i have an open wound, long story short i’m told it’s in tablet form. Would be good to hear off anyone who has been through or going the same.

Ill be on Capecitabine by the way

  • I had chemo for stage 3 bowel cancer in 2021/2022. I found the effects of drugs were gradual but were harder for me as time went on.
I made a calendar for the entire treatment and crossed off each tablet/infusion/day as I got through it.
it helped me greatly to see the time passing and I could say - that’s a quarter of the way, half the way etc. It really motivated me towards the end of treatment.
    Hope this helps. Green heart

  • That’s a good  idea i already do that with current meds, i’ve since found out it’s Capecitabine if that’s more informative for you, wonder if it’s the same as what you had? Proposed time is 3-6 months for me.

  • Yes - it was Capcitabine I was on.
Timescale was three months in 3 weekly cycles. Two weeks on and one week off. Infusions were one half day each cycle I think.

  • I found when on Capecitabine I suffered from tingling in my face and hands mainly. This is a common side effect of the drug.
i got gloves online that can have hot  pack - heat in microwave in seconds. They were a life saver as it took tingling away. Very soon after I was finished the treatment the tingling disappeared.
You need to make sure gloves have packs on both sides!

  • Hi Double G,

I’ve just finished six months on this.  The worst side affect for me was fatigue.  I’m four weeks post chemo now and it is improving.  They will give you pills for managing other side effects.   My hair had thinned a lot but I’ve still got lots.

The side effects do build over the cycles. For the first two cycles I was still working 33 hours a week and then had to drop to 25 hours for the rest.  I’m back up to 30 now.

Get some good moisturiser would be my top tip!

Some people barely have any side effects at all! Fingers crossed for you!

  • Oh heated golves thanks for the tip, i’ll look into that, like you say everyone’s different

  • Thanks that’s good to know, but as you say everyone’s different so who knows what i’ll feel like and what symptoms
