Our younger brother (58) has just been diagnosed with inoperable bowel cancer (right sided ascending colon) which has spread to other parts of the abdomen. We are now waiting to hear the results of a PET scan to see if it has spread elsewhere. We are all in shock and hoping that with chemo and possible other interventions (as yet unknown to us) that he will have some more good years with his loved ones and friends.

There is a strong bowel cancer history in the family though our FIT tests have so far come back as negative- despite this my brother is in this horrible situation. I am in the process of also getting a check up colonoscopy.

Any info on best practice and guidelines for both my brother and I would be much appreciated, also any accounts of people living with such a diagnosis would be helpful as one tends to think the worst but wants have some realistic hope.

Thank you
