Hello, just looking for some reassurance really as have been going out of my mind with worry for the last week!
I'm a 30 year old Male who has had blood in stool maybe twice a year for the past 3 years - have been to A&E about it and was told internal piles so nothing to worry about last year
I recently had another episode where I bled for 3 days with first bowel movement each day and had a burning/sharp pain in the middle of my abdomen which was worse when eating for 2 weeks. I've also suffered with bloating on and off for the last year or so, which does seem to be worse when eating anything carb-heavy.
Went to GP last week who did an exam and said he couldn't feel any piles, requested a CBC and fit test
My symptoms have since disappeared and my CBC has come back normal this week which is somewhat reassuring but I am still incredibly anxious about the FIT result and whether I will need a colonoscopy.
I've been on google far too much and really scared myself about stories of people who had no symptoms or who had normal bloods but turned out to have cancer
I guess I'm just looking for any sort of reassurance or words of comfort whilst I wait for the FIT results!
Hi. Just wait for the FIT result and even if it’s positive there are lots of other medical conditions that can give that result. If the result is above the threshold for further investigation a colonoscopy will follow but think of that as a positive too; it’s a diagnostic tool that should help identify the problem.
The Community Champion for this forum has information on how many FIT/colonoscopy investigations lead to a diagnosis of bowel cancer and it’s probably a lot less than you’re currently thinking.
All the best.

Hi johndoe1234 Please stay away from google! As Maninbath says you need to wait for the results of the FIT test and then take things from there? Try not to stress about something that might not happen?
If, and it is an if at this stage, the FIT test results in further investigation then that is still not necessarily a diagnosis of bowel cancer. Only 1 in 10 colonoscopies results in a bowel cancer diagnosis. Blood in the stool can be caused by piles, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, ibs, crohns etc. so please try to not to stress about the what ifs as stress can cause an upset tummy then you’ll start to stress and things will start to spiral and your imagination will run wild.
Take care and please let us know how you get on?

ps have you had a coeliac blood test done? I seem to remember I had to have this done separately as it wasn’t covered in a full blood count?
Thanks Karen,
In the blood test notes it says coeliac unlikely due to the values that have come back
I'm hoping it is just IBS as my symptoms have been really spread over the last 2-3 years and never stay for long plus I do have history with piles
