CT - extensive liver mets in all segments. Angry, devastated and numb.
local team written him off advised palliative folfori and cetuximab.
second opinion from the Christie (Dr Wilson and Dr Bell) he is eligible for SIRT but recommend chemo first (some hope at last)
so have a cal with Dr Shiu next week to see what he thinks?
Anyway, has anyone had extensive mets and still living a good life years later, even better without treatment now?
Hi Cw1987
So sorry to read this . It’s obviously hard to compare on the internet but my mums Initial scan defined it as a significant spread . I know she had five tumours and one alone was 5 cm . The oncologist did mention that chemo works best on quick growing cells due to the rapid of cell division. Not going to pretend I understand it all and could be inaccurate in my retelling . But sure enough she was chemo responsive and they literally disappeared from the scan . This opened up other options . She lived a further 15 years to reach 82 . She still had cancer when she passed but went in and out of treatment. She had ten months of Cetuximab at 81 for lung mets and it did a good job .
He certainly had treatment options and that brings hope .
She certainly had a very good life since her distressing diagnosis but it took time and a lot of treatment .
take care ,

I'm very sorry you're both going through all this. Mine was in the transverse colon so different but spread to liver- I am waiting to see the plan for my liver after having chemo post taking the primary and an ovary out. Second opinions sound good- The Christie obviously has the amazing reputation and great they have said poss SIRT. Dr Shiu is such a brilliant Doctor and very easy to talk to- he will give you the options he thinks are there and really pushes to get people to a place where they can have more intervention. Really wishing you good luck
