Hi everyone, hope you’re all doing alright!
I’ve had chemoradiation for my stage 3 lower rectal tumor, it shrunk it to 2cm away from the margin for APR or LAR which I would prefer.
my tumor board recommended 4 months of CAPOX then possible surgery, my oncologist says he doesn’t think it’s a good idea and is urging me to get APR surgery then CAPOX
I think the CAPOX first would be the better way to go, any thoughts??
Hi Lozthe1 The recent Foxtrot trial showed that having chemo before surgery decreases the chance of it coming back. If you have chemo before your op then you’re in a better physical shape to deal with it whereas it can be tougher after an operation especially if recovery takes longer than expected.
Personally I agree with you that chemo before the op is preferable unless your surgeon has a very good reason for delaying it until after?
Take care
